Arola extends across a vast
territory that also has a beach
area on the Positano side. Its
inhabitants are mainly
agricultural workers, well-known
also for their cheese products,
still produced according to
traditional methods. The
entrances in decorated stone of
all the country houses open onto
small internal courtyards. In
the midst of this countryside
architecture rises the square
spire of the Belltower of
the Church of Sant’Antonio,
with its beautiful 16th
century portal. Descending from
Arola and along the via dei
Camaldoli road, the
Astapiana hill is reached, with
its 17th century
Camaldolesi Monastery.
From
here the panorama across the Sorrento Peninsula becomes even
more breathtaking, from Meta to
the very tip of Punta della
Campanella. |
